Updated: Apr 10, 2024

The perfect beef burger for any occasion

This meal is great for when I have family and friends over. It has always been a crowd pleaser.

This is my favourite at home pub meal – Simone Laws

INGREDIENTS

  • 500G BEEF MINCE

  • 1 BROWN ONION, COARSELY GRATED

  • 1 CUP (70G) FRESH BREAD CRUMBS

  • 1 TABLESPOON WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE

  • 1 EGG, LIGHTLY WHISKED

  • 4 BACON RASHERS

  • 4 SLICES CHEDDAR CHEESE

  • 4 EGGS

  • 4 WHITE BREAD ROLLS, SPLIT

  • 2 ICEBERG LETTUCE LEAVES, FINELY SHREDDED

  • 1 LARGE RIPE TOMATO, THINLY SLICED

  • 225G CAN BEETROOT SLICES, DRAINED

  • TOMATO SAUCE, TO SERVE

METHOD

Prepare the Beef Patties:

  • In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, grated onion, fresh bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, and lightly whisked egg. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  • Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a 12cm disc. Place them on a plate and cover with plastic wrap. Place in the fridge for 30 minutes to rest.

Cook the Bacon:

  • Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the bacon rashers and cook for 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crisp. Transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towel.

Cook the Beef Patties:

  • In the same frying pan, add the beef patties and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.

  • Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt. Transfer the patties to a plate.

Prepare the Bread Rolls:

  • Meanwhile, preheat the grill on high. Toast the bread rolls under the grill until golden brown and lightly crispy.

Cook the Eggs:

  • Crack the eggs into the frying pan used to cook the bacon and beef patties. Cook for 2 minutes or until cooked to your liking.

Assemble the Burger:

  • Place the base of each bread roll on serving plates.

  • Layer each bread roll with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, a beef patty with melted cheese, cooked bacon, a slice of beetroot, and a fried egg.

  • Top with the other half of the bread roll.

  • Serve the beef burgers immediately with tomato sauce on the side.
